Gudauri in Georgia should be at the top of your list! We embarked on this journey to Gudauri, a haven for skiing and snowboarding nestled within the stunning Caucasus Mountains. Let me take you through our 5-day adventure, which was filled with snow sports, cultural exploration, and unforgettable experiences.
Day 1: Arriving in Gudauri

Our trip began with a flight into Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. The excitement was big as we collected our luggage met our driver and the rent a van for our group. The 2h 30min drive to Gudauri was an beautiful, roads offering panoramic views of snow-capped peaks and charming Georgian villages.
Arriving at our ski-in/ski-out hotel, we were immediately struck by the convenience of our location, just steps from the slopes.
The studio we rented was cozy, with all necessary amenities, providing a sweet balance of luxury and warmth. We rested for a little bit as we flew in overnight, and after a quick nap, we met everyone for a Georgian lunch.
Then, I headed for my first ski lesson with another newbie friend while everyone else went for the big lines.
That evening, our group gathered to plan our skiing itinerary over a cozy dinner. The anticipation for the days ahead was huge, and we relaxed as we sipped on wine watching the sunset.
Day 2: Hitting the Slopes
Our first full day in Gudauri was nothing short of exhilarating! As the group sped down off-piste trails, I ventured to the beginner slopes for a morning of ski lesson. My local ski instructors were incredibly welcoming and patient and gave me the confidence to embrace skiing, despite being my first time.
The snow conditions were immaculate, with fresh powder enhancing each turn and run. Throughout the morning, I felt accomplished, thanks to the supportive environment and cheers from our group as we progressed on our journeys.
Over lunch, we regrouped at one of the cozy mountain restaurants. The hearty Georgian cuisine, featuring local favorites like khinkali and khachapuri, was a pleasant treat, perfectly refueling our energy for the adventures that lay ahead.
When the others returned to the slopes, I had the chance to explore the cute little town. Where I discovered quaint shops offering homemade wine and traditional crafts, each presenting a piece of Georgian culture.
Day 3: Adventure and Exploration

With every sunrise over the Caucasus Mountains came renewed excitement. Day three began with a nourishing breakfast, followed by a deeper exploration of Gudauri’s striking scenery. We spent the morning traversing snow-draped trails, capturing photos of the remarkable landscapes that adorned every corner of our expedition.
By afternoon, we were craving the slopes again. The day was full of friendly competitions, laughter, and those rare moments of tranquility you can only find on open mountainsides.
For dinner, we discovered the charming “Drunk Cherry” restaurant. As we indulged in delightful dishes, the evening unfolded in good spirits, enriching our bond over shared love for Georgian wine that its one of my favorite wine regions, and I highly recommend that you try their qvevri wines.

Georgia is renowned as one of the oldest wine-producing regions in the world, with a history that spans over 8,000 years. A standout feature of Georgian winemaking is the traditional qvevri method, which involves fermenting and aging wine in large earthenware vessels buried underground. This ancient technique imparts unique characteristics to the wine, enhancing its depth and complexity. The qvevri method not only preserves the rich cultural heritage of Georgian winemaking but also produces wines with distinct flavors and textures that celebrate the natural qualities of the grapes.

Our last full day on the slopes was marked by a group ski outing and it felt wonderful to ski alongside friends, sharing moments of joy and exhilaration.
As the sun began to set, we made our way to one of the après-ski spots in Gudauri. The atmosphere was lively, with music and laughter filling the air. We enjoyed drinks and local food, recounting our favorite moments from the trip and celebrating a memorable adventure.
Day 5: Farewell to Gudauri, Georgia
The final day in this winter wonderland we spent savoring a last look at the mesmerizing mountain views from our hotel.
Reluctantly, we began our journey back to Tbilisi. Our hearts were full, enriched by new skills gained, friendships strengthened, and breathtaking experiences amassed over these five days.
