Days 1-6: Finding Balance in Ubud
Our journey began in Ubud, a serene town known for its lush rice terraces, bustling arts scene, and spiritual atmosphere. Ubud was the perfect place to unwind and immerse ourselves in the local culture.
Yoga and Serenity:
One of the highlights of my time in Ubud was dedicating myself to yoga practice. Each morning, I attended classes at several renowned studios throughout the town. Practicing yoga in Ubud was an old dream, and it was a transformative experience. It enhanced my sense of balance and mindfulness while helping me connect with my inner self. Meeting with like-minded individuals from around the world made each session feel welcoming and energizing.
Art and Culture:
Ubud is rich in cultural experiences, offering countless ways to engage with local traditions and crafts. We spent our afternoons exploring vibrant art markets, where artisans showcased their beautiful handcrafted goods. Intricate wood carvings, colorful textiles, and stunning paintings caught our eye, each piece telling a unique story of Balinese culture.
Our cultural exploration extended to the iconic Ubud Palace, where we marveled at the traditional Balinese architecture.
Watching a traditional dance performance was a unforgettable experience, as the dancers’ intricate movements brought stories and legends to life. We watched a reenactment of the Ramayana, which, I kid you not, was one of my favorite bedtime stories as a child, and it had me in tears. Such performances are a testament to the island’s dedication to preserving its artistic traditions.

Culinary Delights:
Indulging in Ubud’s culinary scene was a daily ritual. Each cute cafe or local restaurant we visited offered its own unique charm, with dishes made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients. We enjoyed a variety of vegetarian plates, traditional Balinese fare like Babi Guling.
Exploration and Relaxation:
Equipped with our rented scooter, we ventured beyond the town center, discovering lesser-known spots such as serene temples tucked away amidst the rice paddies. Our exploration led us to Tegenungan Waterfall, a breathtaking sight where the cascading water provided a refreshing retreat from the tropical heat. The freedom to explore at our own pace allowed us to fully experience the tranquil beauty of Ubud.

Days 7-11: Surf and Relaxation in Canggu
Leaving Ubud’s serene embrace, we journeyed to Canggu, a coastal village renowned for its surf-friendly beaches and laid-back ambiance. Canggu brought a different energy, one marked by sun, surf, and sand.
Surfing the Waves:
I continued my yoga practice in canggu. My husband, however, embraced the lifestyle going to surfing lessons at beach spots like Batu Bolong and Echo Beach.
Exploring by scooter:
Canggu’s allure lies in its seamless blend of relaxation and exploration. We embraced the freedom of exploring the village by scooter, weaving through rice paddies and near the stunning coastline. This allowed us to uncover hidden beach bars, discover unique boutiques, and unwind in scenic spots off the beaten path. The scooter became our trusted companion, offering us flexibility and spontaneity in our adventures.
Cafes and Chill:
Canggu is famed for its array of trendy cafes to unwind and enjoy delicious treats. We made it a point to visit a new café each day, savoring all the healthy food options. These cafes became our favorite spots for relaxation and people-watching, where the island pace felt just right. Our evenings often concluded with sunset strolls along the beach, the perfect way to end our days.

We met travelers and locals whose stories and insights added new dimensions to our trip. Conversations flowed easily in the welcoming atmosphere, and exchanging travel tales over delicious meals created connections that we cherished. The sense of community added depth to our journey, reminding us of the universal connections fostered through travel.
