Here’s a detailed 7 Days Jordan itinerary that helped us make the most of our time in this stunning country.
Jordan is a land of rich history, breathtaking landscapes, and warm hospitality. Whether we were wandering through ancient ruins, floating in the Dead Sea, or experiencing the marvels of Petra, Jordan offered us a unique blend of culture and adventure.
Day 1: Arrival in Amman
Our journey began in Amman, Jordan’s vibrant capital. Upon arrival, we quickly settled into our hotel and, headed to the city to explore local sights:
- Roman Theater: We admired this well-preserved Roman amphitheater, dating back to the 2nd century A.D., a testament to the city’s ancient history.
- Citadel: We explored the Citadel, offering panoramic views of Amman and featuring ancient ruins, including the Temple of Hercules.
- Rainbow Street: In the evening, we strolled along Rainbow Street, discovering cafes, restaurants, and shops. We savored traditional Jordanian cuisine for dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 2: Jerash and Ajloun Castle
We drove to Jerash, one of the best-preserved Roman cities outside Italy:
- Jerash Ruins: We explored stunning ruins like the Forum, the Temple of Artemis, and impressive colonnaded streets. A guided tour enriched our understanding of this historical site.
- Ajloun Castle: We then visited Ajloun Castle, a 12th-century fortress with panoramic views of the Jordan Valley, learning about its history.
Back in Amman, we enjoyed a leisurely dinner at a local eatery.
Day 3: Travel to Petra
On our third day, we traveled to Petra. The drive from Amman to Petra took approximately 3 hours, so we left early in the morning. After checking into our hotel, we set off to explore the area and try the food.
- Little Petra: We discovered this lesser-known site before heading into Petra itself, and I highly recommend that you check it out if you have the time.
- Petra by Sunset: Later, we entered the archaeological park in the late afternoon, walking through the majestic Siq toward the stunning Treasury. Watching the sun set over the ancient city was a magical experience that we’ll always cherish.
Day 4: Full Day in Petra
We dedicated our entire day to exploring Petra. Start early to make the most of our visit and were surprised by the size of the site and the number of places to explore.
- Treasury and Beyond: After taking in the breathtaking views of the Treasury, we continued exploring iconic sites such as the Theater, the Royal Tombs, and the Monastery. We didn’t miss the opportunity to hike to the High Place of Sacrifice for spectacular views of the surrounding landscape. It was a day full of exploring, and while the hike was not steep or difficult, it was long, with a total of 8 km.
We enjoyed lunch at one of the cafes inside the park before continuing our exploration. This was the biggest highlight of our trip to Jordan, and I can’t say it enough: please allow at least two days to explore Petra. I wish we had more time!
Day 5: Wadi Rum
Next, we drove another 2 hours to Wadi Rum, the stunning desert landscape known for its towering rock formations and dramatic scenery.
- Journey to Wadi Rum: We arrived in time for an afternoon jeep tour, experiencing the beauty of the desert at dusk and watching the sunset in the most beautiful desert I have ever seen.
We chose to stay in a bubble hotel, which offered an incredible experience of stargazing under the beautiful desert sky from our bed. The jacuzzi was an excellent bonus, making our evening even more special.
Day 6: Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea
We started our day with a leisurely breakfast in Wadi Rum. After checking out, we took our 4×4 rental to explore more of this breathtaking desert landscape. I only recommend this if you are familiar with driving in the desert and have a good 4×4.
In the early afternoon, we departed for the Dead Sea—the lowest point on Earth.
- Floating in the Dead Sea: We spent our afternoon relaxing by the shores, floating in its mineral-rich waters, and indulging in a rejuvenating mud bath. The unique experience of floating in the Dead Sea was both fun and incredibly refreshing!
We spent the night in a hotel along the Dead Sea, allowing ourselves to unwind after the 7 Days in Jordan itinerary.
Day 7: Departure from Amman
On our final day, we headed back to Amman. Depending on your flight schedule, we took the opportunity to shop for souvenirs or visit local markets to experience Amman’s vibrant culture one last time and made our way to the airport for departure.
